INTRODUCTION

Metalex multipoint air purger is specially designed to maintain the efficiency if an ammonia refrigeration plant by removing any air present in the refrigeration system. Multipoint purging is the only effective method for removing all air from a refrigeration system

Metalex air purger unit is perfectly capable of removing any air present in refrigeration installations of virtually any size. This is because it can be connected to as many as 16 diffrent purge points, quickly and effectively removes all non condensable air from the system

Installing an air purger in your refrigeration plant helps ensure maximum operating effeciency, as well as avoiding unnecessary costs in the form of additional power consumption or extra maintanence. It also provides you with drastic reductions in breakdown ricks

TECHNICAL DETAILS

How air affects refrigeration plant:

Any air present inside the equipment used in a refrigeration plant reduces the effective surface of the condenser and evaporators. This then results in higher operating costs and premature wear of compressor parts

 

The present of non-condensable gasses in the condenser leads to poor heat transmission between refrigerant vapor and cooling water, and this reduces the condenser capacity. Moreover, the total pressure, which is equal to the sum of the partial pressures, will increase in condensing pressure and this means reduction of the compressor capacity resulting in increased power consumption and longer running time.

 

Symptoms of air in refrigeration system:

 

• Increase in discharge pressure
• Loosing capacity over the years
• Cooling problems during summer
• Increased power consumption
• Higher service/maintenance costs

 

As a consequence…

A 1°C increase in condensing pressure means approx…

  • 1% lower cooling capacity
  • 3% Lower COP
  • 3.1% Higher Power Consumption (for a given capacity)

 

Air Purger NH3 Capacity


The left graph shows the air purgers air purging capacity as an air volume flow. The red curve is
the volume of the air in the condenser or receiver, and the green curve is the volume of the purged
air at atmospheric pressure.

 

The air purger will suck or drag the air from the purging points with the refrigerant at a capacity of
approx. 10 kW refrigerant flow at condensing pressure.

 

Very often our air purgers have been installed on systems which have already had competing products on for many years, yet our purgers still find lots of air.

 

Such is the efficiency of the MAP, that very often you cannot detect any obvious traces of Ammonia in the expelled air, even considering how easily noticeable it is.
